Sustainable Hacks: Vinegar All-Purpose Cleaner
How many of you have googled how to make your own all-purpose cleaner in the past? I feel now more than ever people are trying to avoid chemicals and going back to natural products. I’m not mad about it — I think it can be an easy way to reduce waste and save some money.
A few days ago I shared how to make your own toilet bombs, noticing how cleaning products have been disappearing from the shelves lately. I’m afraid to say, I still struggle finding enough cleaning supplies when I go grocery shopping. So perhaps this is the time to make our own.
There are a lot of recipes out there on how to make your own all-purpose cleaner. Lots of chemicals you need to buy and dose with the exact amount. But like everything else in the kitchen, I prefer keeping things simple. My all-purpose cleaner is straight-forward and anyone can make it.
-½ cup of white vinegar
-1 to 2 cups of water
-A few drops of essential oil
You will also need an empty spray bottle. You will start by filling it with the vinegar and then the water. The amount of the water depends on how big the bottle is and how much you want to dilute the vinegar.
After adding the water, mix in the essential oil. Here’s a great article about 5 essential oils and their properties — you can even mix 2 together! Once all the ingredients are in the bottle, gently swirl and use it immediately or keep for later use.
Remember! You can’t use vinegar on marble or granite as it will ruin the material!
